Agricultural Leadership Program Pt 2

Agricultural Leadership Program Pt 2

From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower report. The Agricultural Leadership Program celebrates its first class.

Jaqui Gordon of the Washington State Tree Fruit Association said they plan to have two classes a year…

GORDON … “We will be rotating classes between Yakima, the Tri Cities and Wenatchee. We will be doing our fall class soon and next year we plan to have two more.

Ofelio Borges of the state Department of Agriculture says it’s about management nuances…

Borges… “Some of the topics we cover in our courses are, again, aspects of leadership related to conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, stress management, building trust, communications.”

And, put into practice…

Borges … “Our goal is for them to return to their workplaces and begin to apply some of the concepts they learned from the leadership program. So this program also includes mentoring time.

The industry, says Gordon, has been behind us from the start…

GORDON … “Many different companies participated in this first workshop. We had a variety of companies and agricultural groups that are involved in the industry. And, we also have private suppliers who support us as sponsors because they believe in the program, they believe in our mission.
