Arab Parliament hails Yemen’s new presidential leadership

The Arab Parliament (AP) hailed Yemen’s new Presidential Council, describing it as a real step forward towards the security and stability of Yemen and its people.

The council was sworn in on Tuesday before parliament at a ceremony in Aden. Led by Council President Sheikh Sultan Al-Barakan, the swearing-in took place in the presence of foreign ambassadors, US and UN envoys to Yemen.

Parliament viewed the event as an important step and a real beginning that will bring security and stability and end the protracted crisis in Yemen, reiterating its solidarity and full support to the Yemeni Council,

Furthermore, he stressed his aspiration to end the Yemeni crisis in accordance with the terms of reference represented by the Gulf Initiative, the results of the Yemeni Comprehensive National Dialogue and UN Security Council Resolution (2216).

The Arab Parliament also reaffirmed its firm position and support for peaceful resolution efforts to ensure the unity and territorial integrity of Yemen and meet the aspirations of its people for security, peace and stability.

In the same vein, the Legislative Assembly highlighted the Council’s role in restoring peace and stability in Yemen, reviewing the economic and living situation and rebuilding its institutions.

The PA wished the Presidential Leadership Council led by Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi and its members every success in discharging their national responsibilities, especially at this important step to serve Yemen and its people.
