Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf, on Friday welcomed Yemeni President Abd-Rabbo Mansour Hadi’s announcement to establish the Presidential Leadership Council.
The board will proceed with the duties of the transitional period. He will assume all the powers of the president of the republic in accordance with the constitution and the initiative of the Gulf and its executive mechanisms.
Al-Hajraf stressed the GCC’s support for the Presidential Leadership Council as it seeks to ensure security and stability in Yemen.
The council will be headed by Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi.
Al-Hajraf hopes the council will succeed in fulfilling its national responsibilities, especially at this historic juncture, to serve Yemen and its people.
The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, hailed the establishment of the council.
He hopes that this decision will help create the necessary conditions to end the fighting in Yemen and support negotiations between all Yemeni parties to reach a comprehensive political solution that would ensure peace, security and stability throughout their country.
He praised Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for providing $3 billion in emergency aid to the Yemeni economy.
