US President Joe Biden joins list of heads of state who used despicable on-air abuse

There are several instances where politicians have abused their powers to criticize media personnel. Sometimes the case was settled with a few negative remarks, sometimes it exceeded expectations and ended with offensive language against journalists. In the latest series, US President Joe Biden was filmed using harsh words against a well-known journalist. On Monday, as POTUS Biden addressed a White House press conference, a Fox News reporter asked the president if inflation was a political handicap?

Watch the video of Biden abusing a Fox News reporter:

According to the video, which has now gone viral on social media platforms, Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Biden about inflation, which is at its highest level in nearly 40 years. Responding to the reporter, Biden sarcastically said, “That’s a great asset. No more inflation.” However, he didn’t stop there and went on to say, “What a stupid son of a bitch.” According to multiple outlets, POTUS Biden probably had no idea the microphone he was using was always on. Fearing criticism from all walks of life as video of the incident went viral, the 79-year-old Democratic leader contacted the reporter within an hour of the incident with an apology. Doocy said Biden told him, “It’s nothing personal, mate.”

Trump retains highest rank in terms of abuse of journalists

It should be mentioned that Biden was not the first leader to publicly abuse media personnel during a press conference. Surprisingly, the list is too long. Notably, former US President Donald Trump maintains the highest ranking in terms of abuse of journalists. According to a Business Insider report, Trump has been caught at least eight times, where he could be heard criticizing media personnel during a presser when he held the highest ranking in the nation. The report said Trump repeatedly called journalists “terrible”, “fake” and “evil”, and told some they “would never get there”. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Trump told an NBC reporter that he was a “terrible reporter.” He was responding in particular to a question on “what the president would say to Americans who are afraid of the virus”.

Bolsonaro’s comments on journalists

When it comes to abusing or threatening journalists, the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, maintains a very unethical record. According to a report by Reporters Without Borders, insulting a journalist is an integral part of President Erdogan’s methods. In response to criticism, he usually tries to smear his detractors. If they’re lucky, he just calls them “ignorant”. But he’s more likely to call them “agents of subversion”, “foreign spies” or even some sort of “terrorist”. In particular, Jair Bolsonaro, President of Brazil, has repeatedly proven that he has an extreme mentality against journalists, who criticize his government. According to a report by The Guardian, several national media outlets stopped reporting Bolsonaro’s stories last year after facing verbal attacks from the ringleader. On several occasions, he called journalists scum, rats, crooks, thugs, crooks and sons of bitches.
